Books
Absolute Beginners - by Colin MacInnes

This is an absolute staple in a mods diet. Based around the beginning of modernism, theres been songs based on this book and a movie also.
All the Rage - by Ian Mclagan

BUY IT! Should be 2 words you should live by and if you haven't done it already, what are you waiting for? Go get this book now.
Mac dishes the dirt. A true behind the scenes look of a life as a Small Face and then a Face, what a face! Need I say it again, buy it.
Steve Marriott All too Beautiful -
by Paolo Hewitt and John Hellier

Autobiogrophy about the man himself, Steve Marriott. Written by Paolo Hewitt and Sir. John Hellier. If your as big as Small Faces fan as I am, then I recommend this book. John Hellier has been a fan for many years, producing the successful Wapping Wharf fanzine and holding such great events such as the annual Small Faces convention at the Ruskin Arms, Steve Marriott Memorial Concert and the Ronnie Lane Memorial Concert. He has done many great things keeping the Small Faces name alive and this is one of them, thank you.
Mod a Very British Phenomenom -
by Terry Rawlings, Richard Barnes

A giant coffee table book with lots of photos and information, including the revival period.
Empire Made - by Terry Rawlings and Keith Badman

Basically an A to Z guide that falls under the mod radar. Its got some high points, low points and a few questionable points, but well worth the paper it was printed on.
Not the mod bible but a great coffee table book.
Kink - by Dave Davis

An autobiography with a great insight of the life of the Davies kids and the inner circle of The Kinks. All brought to you by their lead guitarist.

London Live - by Tony Bacon

A quick breeze through the doors of the capital's legendary clubs and the bands who happened to play in them. Visit the Marquee, the Flamingo, and the Scene Club.

This Is A Modern Life : The 1980s London Mod Scene
- by Enamel Verguren

I haven't yet got this book but it looks very promising. I'm hoping to pick out a few photos of friends and movers n shakers. I'll post a review as soon as I get my grubby mits on it.

Mods! - by Richard Barnes

A collection of over 150 photographs taken from the 60's mod scene. Another must have in the book collection.
Moon - by Tony Fletcher

Theres been tons of books written on The Who and quite a few tales on Moonie. This book lets you have it. As the first line states in the foreword, "How do you capture an exploding time bomb?"
Ready, Steady, Go!: The Smashing Rise and Giddy Fall of Swinging London
- by Shawn Levy

Yet another book that I haven't got yet but I'm looking forward to doing the review, while we wait lets look at the pretty picture.
The Small Faces & Other Stories
by Uli Twelker, Roland Schmitt

Seeing as though I'm such a big SF fan, I buy all these up when I see them. The story never gets old no matter who tells it and Uli & Roland tell it well. Get it while you see it.
The Soul Stylists: Six Decades of Modernism-From Mod to Casual
- by Paolo Hewitt, Paul Weller

This is a great book, I read it 3 times in one sitting. Paolo is no stranger to this subject and he delivers us a great book, well done. Testimonials from people who were there with a fine eye for detail. Buy this book you won't be dissapointed.
Stoned - by Andrew Loog Oldham

Mr Oldham lets you know where he came from, how he got there, what fingers he trod on and where he was going.
A good read from cover to cover, details the business aspect of the early 60's music industry with the rise of the Stones.
Promises of a second book to detail the later 60's, I'm personally looking forward to the Immediate Years.
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of THE WHO 1958-1978
- by Andy Neill, Matt Kent

A must for any Who fan. Great photos and you don't miss a beat, literally.
DVD
Steve Marriott Astoria Memorial Concert DVD

Ok, so I haven't got my copy yet (shame on me) but I still can review this because I was there! Really though there are no words that can capture the moment and atmosphere of the show. Great performances with a climatic final performance by Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Mac, Kenny, Gem etc..... there is also a cd that accompanies this show.

Quadrophenia DVD - by Rhino Home Video

Theres no need to review this dvd. How many times have you seen this movie? I must be honest that I haven't seen it in a few years and when watching the DVD version I was suprised how much more colour was in the picture. A few special features are added to the DVD including the original Theatrical trailer, commentary track, are you a mod or rocker quiz etc....
The Life & Times of Steve Marriott DVD - by Pioneer Artists

A complete documentary on the legendary Small Face, Steve Marriott. Includes footage of the Smal Faces, Humble Pie and his pub rock years. Exclusive interviews with family members, Sir John Hellier himself and a cast of stars and former band members. Worth every penny if your a fan of the little Eastend fella with a Soulful voice.
Magazines

Scoot! Quarterly - US Scooter Magazine

Scoot! Quarterly is a well put together scooter magazine featuring the North American scooter scene. Its a wealth of information if you want to get to know what the stateside scooter scene has to offer with features on Rallies, Clubs and Shops. Superb graphics and articles with a free badge here and there.

Mojo - UK monthly music Magazine

Coming from the UK is Mojo magazine. Possibly one of the best music magazines you'll find at the Newstand. In the past they have done quite a few features on musicians that have been staples through the years of the mod scene.

Scootering Magazine

No need to go into a great explanation here. This magazine has been around longer than I care to remember but still delivers interesting articles and features. Shame they only give Mod events small reviews at the back of the magazine, but its worth it for the pictures alone.
